Yannis Makarounis and George Kiortsis have been working together for over thirty years. Their first entrepreneurial venture was in the 1990s, when they founded a prominent software start-up.
They saw their first venture through a major merger in 1999, and then went on to found Alconsoft in 2005. Alconsoft is a software company developing solutions for the construction industry, with a focus on planning, costing and managing construction projects across the globe.
Alconsoft’s first product was ConstrAXION, a database project management tool for public sector construction projects. ConstrAXION was initially developed for the Greek market, offering data management solutions for the full life cycle of public and private construction of all sizes, from the initial planning through the actual construction. ConstrAXION is currently in its 8th iteration, with over 500 users across Greece and has been used to manage major construction projects such as Costa Navarino, a complex of premium resorts in the south of Athens, Greece.
Still, George & Yannis could see a gap in the market; the lack of a common meeting space for CAD designs & construction databases. In 2010, they launched ExtrAXION, which combines drawings and databases in a single, intuitive interface, offering a unified solution for the management of all kinds of construction projects globally. ExtrAXION is geared towards the international market, with an open and modular design that makes it easily adaptable to different regional requirements.
Today, ExtrAXION is used by quantity surveyors, estimators, engineers and contractors in over 30 countries, either as a standalone tool or as a quantity take-off module in third-party applications and has been translated in 10 languages. ExtrAXION is continually expanded through new and improved features, with a team of 5 employees and external collaborators contributing to the development of Alconsoft’s signature product.
